THE PAPER YOU NEED TO WRITE NEEDS TO BE IN A SPEECH FORMAT RELATING TO THE PAPER I ATTACHED ON HERE. PLEASE USE THE INFORMATION THERE AND ANY OTHER OTHER INFORMATION NEEDED TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW! ANSWER ALL 10 QUESTIONS PLEASE AND THANK YOU. THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS A COPY AND PASTE FROM THE PROFESSOR.
MUS310 Oral Research Presentation
Your oral research presentation is where you orally discuss your research paper. Refer to the assignment prompt for some questions to answer in your presentation.
There are multiple options on how to complete the oral presentation; one should be able to see or hear students present, as if one were in class. Some of the options include: 1) video record yourself and post to YouTube as an unlisted link; 2) video record yourself and post/embed the video on Canvas; 3) audio and/or video record yourself and embed into a PowerPoint slide presentation. Many students have used Zoom to record themselves presenting a slide presentation. Presentations should be around 2-5 minutes max, give or take a few minutes.
1.What was your thesis – what did you research, were you trying to prove or demonstrate anything? What types of questions were you looking to answer by doing your research?
2.What is the relationship between the music and culture that you studied? Do people/cultures have an influence on the music or does the music influence culture?
3.How do people within a culture view the music you studied – did it seem like everyone feels the same about the music, as in the music has the same meaning to everyone within the culture? How about people outside of the culture?
4.Did you find any sort of ethical issues with the music and/or culture you studied – or potentially with people outside of the culture?
5.Is the music you studied being borrowed or appropriated by other cultures and if so, what kind of relationships are potentially formed by these cultures? Does it bring cultures together or could there be problems?
6.Can music, specifically the music or any musicians/bands you studied, be used in ways to bring about change in the world? Are there any examples that you came across – whether it’s through performances, festivals, PSAs (Public Service Announcements), music videos, or even actual participation in organizations – that can show how music, musicians, and/or bands impact society (locally, nationally, or globally).
7.Is it possible that the music you studied can play a role in addressing issues that today’s world is facing?
8.What is the possibility that music (musicians and bands) can connect with other industries or disciplines to benefit society? In general, do you think music can be a useful tool in your own industry or discipline and if so, what ideas do you have?
9.If you studied music related to your culture, what did you learn – anything new that you were unaware of? If the music was unrelated to your culture, what piqued your interest in learning about the music and culture and what sort of discoveries did you make?
10.Make some closing statements about your research!

Explain some of the similarities and differences between East Coast and West Coast rap styles.
According to your readings, does hip hop/rap reinforce stereotypes, or does it give a realistic depiction of urban life in African American communities?
How do some of the themes in Rap in the mid to late 1990s shift focus and what do Starr and Waterman argue has influenced this shift?

Extra info from a professor:
The D.Mus. Composition thesis consists of an original composition with an accompanying analysis. Although we do not expect incoming student to already know the focus of their thesis, it is helpful if you can describe some of your recent compositional concerns both technical and philosophical. These may also be informed by studies you have made of the work of other composers or even by extra-musical disciplines. There is a lot of latitude in what you may discuss. We would like to see evidence of critical thinking and clear written expression.

The required word counts below do NOT include in-text citations.
1. Please choose one musical artist that is currently putting out music, that we have NOT studied in the textbook or in the discussion board posts. You may select any musical artist/group you would like as long as they are part of one of the genres, we have studied this semester and are not a tribute band, discussed in the book or used in your discussion posts. In a complete sentence below, list the name of the artist/group you would like to present on and why you chose that artist.
2. The first step of the oral presentation worksheet is to identify 3 scholarly sources that you will use as sources for the information you will present. Scholarly sources are not Wikipedia, AskMy Professor, WiseGeek, Quizlet, or Study.com. Look for sources that are .edu or .org as a starting point. The first thing that comes up when you google a artist/group is not always the best choice.
Using citefast.com create full citations and put them in alphabetical order. Citations should be in alphabetical order.
3. Your presentation must be 3 – 5 minutes in length. The rubric for this assignment requires three-part organization: introduction, body, and conclusion. In the spaces below, provide a few sentences that provide an overview of content you will present. At this time, I am leaving it up to you to determine what you would like to focus on in your presentation. In the box below, provide at least 150 words describing what you plan to discuss in the introduction. Do not type everything you plan to say, just the important ideas that will make up the introduction. Don’t forget to provide in-text citations in your writing below to show which source will provide the information.
4. The body of your presentation should have 3 main topics. Please list the three main topics you think are important in this musical artist’s life and a small amount of information about each. Please write at least 300 words describing what the body of your presentation will include. Don’t forget to provide in-text citations here too.
5. The conclusion of your presentation should provide a brief recap of what the presentation was about and some listening or viewing suggestions for the person watching your presentation so that they know what other information you think might be interesting to them. This section should contain at least 100 words. Don’t forget to include in-text citations.

Please don’t title each paragraph.
Please compare and contrast the following examples:
Example 1 (John Coltrane Quartet “Alabama”)

Example 2 (Robert Glasper Trio “So Beautiful”)

What is similar and what is different between these two video/audio examples in regard to the
music, the band members, and the audience. Why and what are the differences? Why and
what are the similarities? Make sure you address the meaning and inspiration of John
Coltrane’s composition “Alabama.”
