Hello Class and Professor,

I can think of many practical applications of this weeks topics in the real world.

Radical Functions are used in the financial industry to calculate depreciation on assets, inflation, and interest. An understanding of the use of these radical functions in everyday life is imperative to financial literacy.

Class,

Radical expressions are used daily by many different real life situations. One application I can think of is in carpentry and masonry. When designing and constructing buildings, often times angled measurements are used and radical expressions can be used to figure them out.

I think regardless of your profession it is important to understand radical expressions. It can simplify some calculations in the real world even if you are not in a field that requires it.

Choose two variables from the GSS data set (the data set you have been using in the last assignment you did for me) and run a chi-square (crosstab) analysis. Tell me what two variables you chose, which is the independent variable, which is the dependent variable, what the findings indicate and whether the findings are significant. There is a chi-square calculation table to help you do the calculation attached here as well. You will need to obtain the chi-square value from the chi-square table that is available under this weeks folder.

Naturally, we think about the world in three dimensions because that is what we experience daily. As a result, our minds are frequently making qualitative inferences about the space around us. However, we may or may not naturally quantify those situations.

Reflect on your day today. Think about all the times you considered how much space something took up to help make a choice. List as many examples from the past 24 hours as you can recall.
